Jun. 20th, 2005 -- Alton Towers went on the defensive this week concerning an April incident in which 12-year-old Amelia Seiga suffered sprained wrists after riding Rita: Queen of Speed.
Initially, medics declared that Seiga's wrists were sprained, but X-rays taken a week later showed fractures in both wrists. Investigations from both Alton Towers and the Health and Safety Executive concluded that the roller coaster was safe and no changes need to be made. Seiga's mother claimed the force of the ride bent her daughter's wrists backwards. She is seeking to raise Rita's height requirement from its current limit. See BBC News for more.
