News: Batman the Ride to receive ACE landmark

Posted at 5:43 PM EDT (2143 GMT)

Jun. 20th, 2005 -- ACE believes that Great America's Batman deserves the landmark award because it opened doors to more exciting rides after it was built in 1993. Bolliger & Mabillard have went on to make dozens of highly successful amd popular inverted coasters, including many rides using the same or mirrored layout as Batman the Ride.

Twelve years later, Batman the Ride still proves to be one of the most popular rides at the Six Flags Great America theme park, even though it has been dwarfed in size and speed by many of the park's newer thrill rides.

Very cool for Batman! I never thought of it as the coaster that opened the door to a new generation of rides. It can be directly connected to the floorless and the flyer. Hmmm.

This is also very cool of ACE. I never thought of it as a group for the new age rides too. It must be a group for fun-seekers and not the whiners. Without Batman there would be no Raptor or Talon no matter how many places people enjoy Batman: The Ride.

^I won't let you start a flamewar.

I am proud of the contribution of the first b:tr. After that it was overkill.

As with most things (except magnum), after it is made, it gets perfected more and more.

I think ACE needs to do something more important right now... save the Jack Rabbit at Clementon Park. Giving an award to Batman can be done anytime, we need action now to save the Jack Rabbit from 1919! seriously

Hey Pontiac, just remember, Clementon park spent money to change the name of a rollercoaster that was open for one month the previous season! a.k.a. If they were trying to get money to save the Jack Rabbit, this was a terrible move.

I have mixed feelings as an ACEr, but I think it's a positive mostly.

B:TR has made it "cheap" for Six Flags parks to have a highly popular "new" type of coaster.

Most people had never heard of inverted coasters until the late 90's, and that was mostly due to the proliferation of the Batmans.

I've only been on one so far at GA and it's still a fun and quite intense little invert.

I think batman deserves this award. I still find it cool that at almost every six flags that owns a batman, batman is one of the most popular attractions.

I think it's great that Batman is getting that award. I just think it's a shame that it's been cloned so many times. I think it's taken some of the charm away from the ride that it would have if it was still a unique design instead of about half the US SF parks having one. I don't see why they couldn't have gotten invers with slightly different elements on it. Just small changes to make each invert a little unique and stand on it's own.
