News: SeaWorld expansion hitting opposition

Posted at 9:18 PM EDT (0118 GMT)

Jun. 22nd, 2005 -- SeaWorld Orlando says it will be building an additional theme park on 58 acres of land adjacent to the main park. SeaWorld has not disclosed what it would build, and has said more information would be released this fall. Some speculate that SeaWorld may be building a waterpark with slides up to 140 feet tall.

Whatever the company has in mind for the site, those living around the park are opposing the expansion plans. They say they are concerned not only about the noise the expansion would generate, but also exactly what it is that SeaWorld plans on constructing.

According to details filed with the county, the expansion would cost about $90 million, have no building over 140 feet tall, be capable of holding 7,500 guests at a time, and would include a 2,000 car parking lot. It is expected to open in 2007.

Like we've said before, if you don't like an amusement park expanding and don't like parks, then move!

Hey, they're going to build a park exactly the same size as Kentucky Kingdom.

Seriously though, how much noise could 7,500 people make in a waterpark or whatever they're building. What's with the people living nearby. You live near SEAWORLD people, in FLORIDA.

It's rollercoasters that generate noise, and even those can be made to almost silent, like Storm Runner. Besides, we need more than 1 waterslide in the world over 100 feet high, it's about time someone other than disney held that record, and boy does Sea World need a record. Besides, rollercoasters aren't that loud for crying out loud. I was less than 500 feet away from S:ROS @ SFDL in the parking lot once, and I couldn't hear that or mind eraser, which was about the same distance away. Surely water slides generate much less noise and the nearest residents must be a couple miles away.
