News: Hersheypark Contest

Jul. 28th, 2005 -- HERSHEY, Pa. – If you love roller coasters and dream of designing one for Hersheypark, log onto www.hersheys.com/back-to-school/promo-overview.asp. The Grand Prize in the “Design a Roller Coaster” contest offers a $100,000 check for college and a gaming package consisting of eight “E”-rated Atari titles. The total value of the prize is $100,150.

Participants download Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 software and submit their design online. Winners will be judged on creativity, functionality, and other factors including intensity and excitement.

Three Finalist Prizes will be awarded, each including an electronics package consisting of: a personal computer, a wireless router, a color printer, a DVD player, a personal digital audio player and recorder, a PDA, a personal gaming system, a wireless phone with $25 of pre-paid service, a 24-inch stereo television with flat picture tube, a deluxe computer backpack, a digital camera, and an $89 check that can be used to purchase admission to a theme park. The approximate value of the Finalist Prize is $4,000.

Nine First Runner-Up Prizes – a Roller Coaster Tycoon® game valued at $35 each – will be awarded. A total of 99,999 Second Runner-Up Prizes of a Hershey’s Take 5 candy bar will be awarded.

The deadline for entries is January 21, 2006.

Wow, thats quite a prize. All the rides are probably going to end up so similar though, that I don't know how they'll be able to judge.

Did they include information about this contest in the expansions? If they didn't, how are they going to spread the word about it?

Bummer you have to use RCT3.

It would be cool if they used the winning design to actually build their next coaster.

How many enthusiasts can say they designed a coaster? lol

If you already have RCT3 you can't use it, you have to download the setup straight from the website. So all of you who don't have RCT3 can still enter the contest but you have to download the setup just as everybody else who enters the contest. Just wanted to make that clear.

I know you;re right, they do give you a Roller Coaster Tycoon game, I'm not arguing that, but why would they give you the game if you already needed to have it to design the coaster?

No No, it doesn't matter if you have the game or not..you download a setup from hersheys website that includes RCT3.
