News: Dozens Hurt In Disney Coaster Collision

Posted at 2:33 PM EDT (1833 GMT)

Jul. 30th, 2005 -- According to authorities, a crash on "California Screamin'" at Disney's California Adventure theme park on Friday night sent 15 people to the hospital with injuries.

Anaheim city spokesman John Nicoletti said that two trains on the coaster collided near the end of the ride when one rear-ended the other.  33 additional people were examined at the scene and did not require treatment.

This is the second accident in four months at the Disney park after a four-year-old boy broke a finger and severed the tip of his thumb while riding a Disney boat ride.

Wow. Poor Disney. This hasn't been a good year. I wonder how fast the other train was going?

Who cares? It's not like it changes anything. Millions of people will still flock to this overpriced park like zombies. Disney parks have had many big accidents because I don't believe they maintain their parks as well as others. With the money they make, there is no reason this should happen.

Disney spends tons of amount of time rehabbing and working their rides. They do a better job than most of keeping up their investments. They close down rides in staggered manner over the winter to give them an annual rehab that seasonal parks do in the offseason.

Disney had quickly gone from 'The Happiest Place On Earth' to the 'Deadliest Place On Earth'.

Not a good year for Disney...

Yeesh, all the accidents going on at Disney parks really makes one question their maintenance procedures. The derailing on Big Thunder, now this accident...

While Disney does rehab their rides once a year, when I read the report about the BTMR accident I noticed that their weekly maintenance has been cut a lot in the past two years. The budget for staff was cut and the report suspected that inspections are rushed.

Some people are also blaming Intamin, since this is a similar accident to the superman one from a few years ago.
