News: SFGadv seeks to build in-park hotel

Posted at 10:00 PM EDT (0200 GMT)

Aug. 3rd, 2005 -- Six Flags Great Adventure is taking a major step towards becoming a resort tomorrow by proposing that the park construct a hotel half a mile within the park borders.

Representatives for the amusement park said that the planned hotel would contain 500 rooms and stand 89 feet tall. There is no report on the number of stories or any other details concerning the hotel, but the township planner has called the proposed hotel "most attractive."

Final approval or rejection of the hotel is due by Oct. 24. If approved, the hotel may be open by spring of 2007. The property is designed for year-round operation, but there is no word on how much of the year the hotel will operate for.

Well, I knew this was coming. They can use a park. It will really help become a destination.

Just what the park needs. Great amusement park, water park, and now a resort hotel.

I just hope the park isnt DUMB and put it next to KK.. that horn going off every few mins from 10am till 10pm or later EVERYNIGHT would just piss me off.. The horn makes a lot of sound.. and you can hear it in a lot of places in the park.. If the park puts the hotel next to KK... They better take the horn away..

Good point. I think that the horn will be changed soon. Hopefully to a tiger roar.

There is supposed to be a ride spiel right before the launch, so the horn's days are numbered. Or they are numbered as the only pre-launch thing. I think it was GAcoaster who mentioned this on gadv.com's forums, but there are hotels built next to airports and no one complains about those. I believe he said he had a room that faced the runways and the noise was a non-issue. I think all of us know that an airplane is much louder than any coaster.

Also, all signs are pointing towards that closed section of parking lot as being the hotel location. The ground in that location is going through the pre-foundation laying inspections.

One good thing with that location is any "parking lot coaster" feeling Kingda Ka has, which is very little, will be gone. That's the only parking lot that's really noticible, and because of the way the track goes you really don't notice it at all.

I always like the idea of a hotel for the parks and wish more park would include some sort of lodging support for them. Even the hotel guests can get something out of this, like admission discounts, free parking, free public transportation via tram, and perhaps early entrance in the park. I wonder what dining pleasures will be included in the hotel.

Now that we're coming upon the age where more than one day is recommended to leisurely and completely enjoy a multi-park complex like the Great Adventure/Hurricane Harbor/Wild Safari package, hopefully more park can observe and follow this move to better accomodate visitors.
