News: Painting coasters makes a nice living

Posted at 4:13 PM EDT (2013 GMT)

Aug. 8th, 2005 -- Chris Baynum got his biggest break as a painter when a friend gave him the job of painting The Beast at Kings Island twenty years ago. It launched a career that has allowed him to work with many of the best amusement and theme parks in the country.

The Cincinnati native made $80,000 painting The Beast, quadrupling his yearly earnings at the time. Baynum's company now brings in about $4 million per year and has plenty of long-time customers to support his company financially. Typical painting jobs can last up to two months with ten to twenty workers. Next up for Bynum: a meeting with the manager of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch. Seriously.

That last part is kind of creepy.... but wow that's a lot of money. One of my best friend's dad just started his own painting business. I wonder if coaster painters get a friends and family discount to parks ;-)
