News: New SeaWorld park wins approval

Posted at 2:14 AM EDT (0614 GMT)

Aug. 12th, 2005 -- On Wednesday the Orange County Design Review Committee gave its approval to a new 58-acre theme park that will be part of SeaWorld Orlando. Although the final approval will not come until later this month, followed by a 15-day appeal period, that all appears to be a formality, with groundbreaking expected this fall.

The committee also rejected a call for a study on the traffic patterns that the new park would bring. Some members of a nearby community are worried that the park would bring over 10,000 new vehicles to the roads, a potential safety hazard. SeaWorld has announced that the park will not contain fireworks, which were opposed by local residents.

Barring any major setbacks, the yet-unnamed park is expected to open in 2007. It will employ about 1,000 workers.

It's seems only natural that in a true SeaWorld you would be immersed in the water.

This can't all be a waterpark, can it? It says 58 acres. That's huge if it's just for a waterpark. Plus the it says "theme" park in the article. So what is it?
