News: Wild West World breaks ground

Posted at 6:35 PM EDT (2235 GMT)

Aug. 15th, 2005 -- Although rain forced the groundbreaking ceremony for Wild West World to relocate to the dining hall of a nearby ranch, spirits were high as construction on the western-themed amusement park officially began.

In front of a packed, standing-room-only crowd, park developer Thomas Etheredge talked about his vision for the park. In addition to 25 rides, the $17 million park will feature all kinds of Western entertainment and a variety of Old West crafts and exhibitions.

Slated to open in May of 2007, Wild West World will operate from May to September and is expected to draw up to 280,000 people in its first year.

More information available at the Wichita Business Journal.

My expectations are that it will fail and close within 5 years.

Personally I think it might survive. There aren't many parks in the area, so this might have a chance.

Well, I hope you're wrong Montu Man. I would never hope for any park to completely fail. New parks mean new rides and possibly new ideas. It seems like it could be interesting and it's nice to see someone start up a park if that's what they want to do. I know if I had the funds, I would seriously look into starting up my own park. So all the luck to him and his park.

It may have a better chance if it was in Nashville. It is a much larger city than Witchita and they have nothing like this.
