News: Second death at Adventureland

Posted at 8:01 PM EDT (0001 GMT)

Sep. 1st, 2005 -- Two days after a ride operator stepped onto a roller coaster track and was killed by a train, a second death has occurred at the Adventureland amusement park on Long Island. Today a woman was thrown out of the park's spinning Top Scan ride into the windshield of a parked car.

Police say the unidentified woman was flung from the ride over a 20-foot-wall before she smashed into the car. It is unknown whether the woman was wearing the required safety harness.

The Ladybug Coaster, the ride involved in Tuesday night's fatal accident, has been cleared for reopening. Top Scan will remain closed while an investigation is underway.

Two fatalities in three days...
I'm beginning to think someone needs to take a closer look at the way this park runs.

She would have HAD to have the OTSR "on" to ride it.. you cant sit in the seat with it down.... on top of it...

My guess is she had it down.. But to far up and she slipped under it :-

Well, if it's a Mondial Top Scan, the ride won't start up unless all of the restraints are locked properly.

This'll be another Rockin' Raceway type situation...

The is terrible and to think that I went on both of these rides last week scares me.

Wow. Two fatalities in the same park within the span of three days. Guess who's attendance is going to take a steep dive for good few weeks or months? It's either really bad luck and odds for this park, or just poor operations and protocol and poor maintenance.

Yeah, this is pretty bad. I don't think I'll be going to Adventureland for a while, until things get sorted out.

That's scary to say the least. I think something has to be wrong for another death to occur shortly after one just a couple days before it. It completely defies the odds. Other bigger parks have millions of guests pass through their gates every year without a single ride related death. How many people could've been at this park in that three days span? A few thousand, maybe? Those would equal some horrible odds.
