News: PGA to hold family friendly Halloween

Posted at 4:13 PM EDT (2013 GMT)

Sep. 8th, 2005 -- While most parks have blood-filled mazes and gory 3-D movies as Halloween attractions, Paramount's Great America is aiming to amuse guests instead of scaring them. This year, the park's Halloween event, "Nick or Treat", will be focused on younger children and their families.

Rides include the Scary-Go-Round themed carousel, the Collision Caverns bumper cars, and two motion simulators. Among the other events is a Halloween version of karaoke called Scaryoke, a giant pumpkin-patch maze, and a parade with over 20 Nickelodeon characters.

The event runs on weekends only throughout October.

Family events just aren't as fun as ones that are meant to scare you.

But you have to remember that families bring in a lot of money.

2 parents, 3 kids = a lot more money that 1 enthusiast.

I have no problem with the park aiming to bring in more money by catering to families instead of the scares. But I also have to agree that scares are part of the fun of Halloween.

I think that instead of catering to just one audience, why not cater to both? Cater to kids and stuff early in the day, and then use from 3-6p as the transition into the scary park that attracts adults.

This would offer the best of both worlds, because granted, the enthusiasts and adults could ride the fun stuff during the day, and then after dark, enjoy the scary park....but if they have children, they can go through it with their children.
