Sep. 23rd, 2005 -- Call it a high-powered swing set; something you won't find in your own backyard. New at Valleyfair in 2006 is Xtreme Swing , an air-launched thrill ride.
This $6 million attraction towers over 60 feet tall and accommodates 40 passengers, who are seated back-to-back in two rows of 10 riders each on two giant swinging arms. Ride motion is that of a pendulum, suspended from an axle, swinging in an arc, back and forth just like a child's playground swing; except this ride takes you higher up to 125 feet in the air and faster up to 60 miles per hour.
"We're excited to bring this thrilling, new attraction to Valleyfair, states Larry MacKenzie, Valleyfair's vice president and general manager. It will bring back the kid in all of us."
Xtreme Swing is designed by S & S Worldwide Inc., based in Logan , Utah . S & S also designed Valleyfair's popular ride Power Tower .
Construction has already begun on Xtreme Swing, which will debut at Valleyfair in May 2006, which is also the park's 30 th Anniversary year. Guests must be 48 inches or taller to ride.
Valleyfair is owned and operated by Cedar Fair, L.P., a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol FUN. In addition to Valleyfair, Cedar Fair owns and operates six other amusement parks, five water parks and one indoor water park resort.

Oh great. Another "Xtreme." Why is "X" the most popular amusement park name now? I just don't get it. maXair, X, Xtreme Park, Xcelerator, etc.
Cedar Fair really bought a bunch of these. I think every one of their parks is going to have one. I think it's odd that they'd buy from S&S after the VertiGO incident.

Hopefully Cedar Fair won't do what Six Flags does and just name them all the same thing...

It's only 60 feet tall and has a dynamic height of 125 feet, is that even possible? The 32 seater is 65 feet but only swings to about 75 feet...Weird.
Looks like one of the 40 seaters are confirmed, I am now very curious as to what other park will be getting one for the season. BTW, wheres a graphic of the ride?

No worries Graham, Cedar Fair comes with original (sometimes boring) names. The exception being when they bought Geauga Lake...
Just reading the press realease though...I love siwng sets, and could never get higher than the actual height of the swingset. It bugged me. And if its S&S, it means bigger people have a shot at riding this. I'm not neary, but I'm excited.

Well, at least they didn't just keep the name "Screamin' Swing" on this one.

They stole that name from the kennwood name the ride contest. That was one of the 3 finalist names. I'm glad kennywood chose swing shot cause that was the name i thought of and it is much better than Xtreme Swing.
