News: Water Line extension approved for Michigan's Adventure

Posted at 12:22 AM EDT (0422 GMT)

Oct. 13th, 2005 -- Michigan's Adventure park officials announced today that a letter of agreement to extend a water line to the park was signed last week. The water line will be intended to help expand the amusement park, which is Muskegon County's top tourist attraction. Michigan's Adventure had been trying to get approval for three years, and they finally got approval earlier this month.

The water line extension is estimated to cost $4.9 million, and it will create around 150 new jobs. Michigan's Adventure will contribute $400,000 to the project. Although the starting date for the project is unclear, the completion date is June 1, 2007. The project will include a new pump station and elevated water storage tank, along with the line itself.

Camille Jourden-Mark, general manager of Michigan's Adventure, confirmed this morning that she has signed the water agreement. She did release the details for the use of the water line, but stated that there will be an announcement by the end of October. It is anticipated to be one of the largest single investments in the history of Michigan's Adventure.

Richard Kinzel, CEO of parent company Cedar Fair L.P., stated that Cedar Fair will expand indoor waterpark operations, and Michigan's Adventure is a possible candidate for that type of park.

I'd still rather see more rides than another indoor waterpark. It's hard to say which actually has more lasting value since I can't predict how long an indoor waterpark could remain prosperous with so many of them being built, but if a ride lasted 20-30 years then that would probably beat it. Then again, maybe I should want parks to fill up space for now with indoor attractions which can later be torn down for the future's roller coasters.
