News: Dollywood's new ride approved to open in 2006

Posted at 4:50 PM EDT (2050 GMT)

Oct. 29th, 2005 -- The Planning Commission all agreed on approval of Dollywood's new ride. The new $6.5 million Timber Tower ride is set to open in 2006. Designed by Huss Manufacturing of Germany, the ride will lift guests up a tower on a circular gondola, and then the entire tower will topple over while the gondola rotates. The tower will then come back up and topple over in a different direction. This will happen multiple times during the cycle of the ride. Special effects will also enhance the ride.

The ride will be built near the new Thunderhead roller coaster. The park plans to add children's play activities and a restaraunt in that area as well in the future. Other additions for 2006 include up to 1,200 more parking spaces, and Miracle Theater, a theater that will have a musical production about Jesus Christ. All 2006 additions are set to open by the park's opening, April 1, 2006.

The Miracle Theater isn't associated with Dollywood. It will be a completely separate attraction in Pigeon Forge.

I thought these things were supposed to be thrilling, but the video on HUSS's site looks pretty tame. This should fit in at Dollywood though.
