On Friday, October 28th, Beech Bend Park held a press conference to announce the results of a contest that it held to name its new wooden coaster, currently being built by Great Coasters International.
Among all of the entries, "The Kentucky Rumbler" was the name chosen for the new coaster. Derek Sailors from Surfside Beach, South Carolina was the lucky winner and will receive two season passes as well as the opportunity to be on the first train on opening day. Attendees at the conference, which included coaster enthusiasts, local dignitaries, and cheerleaders from Bowling Green Jr. High School, were also treated to a guided tour of the construction site by Jeff Pike, Vice-President of GCI. The entire conference was filmed by a crew that is putting together a documentary on the wooden coaster renaissance for the Discovery Channel, expected to air sometime in 2006. The Kentucky Rumbler will be ready for the park's opening day on May 6, 2006. Compiled from news release and previous reports.
