News: Hong Kong Disneyland falling short in attendance

Posted at 4:05 PM EST (2105 GMT)

Nov. 21st, 2005 -- Hong Kong Disneyland is falling well short of government expectations in attendance according to a report. The government owns a 57 percent stake in the theme park, but the park is falling around 2,000 visitors short of it's daily goal.

The government expected 5.6 million guests in the first year of operation, which would require over 15,000 visitors a day. The park is currently averagingin the range of 13,000 guests. The attendance slump has convinced the park to offer discounts to residents, but the tactic hasn't panned out as they hoped.
