News: Strike averted over weekend at Magic Mountain

Posted at 4:51 PM EST (2151 GMT)

Jan. 2nd, 2006 -- A strike by Six Flags Magic Mountain's roller coaster maintenance workers was averted over the weekend. On Saturday, park managers and union leaders hammered out a deal that was ratified by a "healthy margin" on Sunday. If the deal had not been reached, the unionized workers planned to strike at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday.

The workers, members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, are trying to raise their pay to industry standards. Union workers say they are paid 30 percent less then comparable employees at Universal Studios and Disneyland.

The details of the deal were not made public.

That would've been at least a little exciting, seeing how there's nothing else exciting going on at the moment in the theme park industry world.

It wouldn't have caused to much of a change, they had mechanics on standby from other parks to keep the park running in case this happened.... and nc coasterman you have to think about the reason rides are closed, with a park like Magic Mountain that doesn't close in the winter the rides have to go through their rehab and some point, hence the closures, or they're just pieces or crap

Yeah, but for some it seems like thinking comes in short supply sometimes. :P

I certainly understand why they were upset. That's a huge difference in pay, and especially in California where the housing costs and cost of living are so high. There's reasons we moved out of the state.
