News: Fire at AstroWorld ride up for auction

Jan. 4th, 2006 -- As AstroWorld prepares to auction off a variety of pieces from the closed amusement park starting on Friday, part of one of the largest pieces caught fire this morning. The control room of Greezed Lightnin' went up in flames, but park officials said the ride itself suffered no damage.

Firefighters believe the fire started when the ride was being dismantled with hot torches and a smoldering piece of metal fell beneath the control room and ignited some dry leaves. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
