News: Camp Snoopy loses rights to characters

Posted at 3:15 PM EST (2015 GMT)

Jan. 10th, 2006 -- Camp Snoopy, a seven-acre amusement park inside the Mall of America, is getting a new name. Negotiations between the mall and United Media, which owns the rights to the "Peanuts" characters have broken down, forcing the park to remove all references to the comic strip. Starting Jan. 19, Camp Snoopy will simply be known as "The Park at MoA".

A large inflatable Snoopy and a ride with Snoopy's doghouse will be removed, but the rest of the park will remain open while it looks for a new brand. Tickets and passes that say "Camp Snoopy" will continue to be honored.

A spokeswoman for the mall said that the park wants to bring in something new and a "significant announcement" will be made soon.

See the St. Paul Pionner Press for more.

Does this affect Cedar Fair's use? I would assume not, but I don't know.

The whole reason why the mall of america lost it is because they broke the management contract with Cedar Fair. Cedar Fair will always have right to peanuts charactors.

@ Komatz70 - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

I hope MOA does justice to the park. As long as it isn't "The Park at MOA" next time I visit, I'll be okay.

This is weird, I like the Peanuts theme. I just went to the mallof America this past summer, and I think it was cool. Whatever though, as long as they arent just tearing it down for some stupid shopes.. it's all good.
