Industry Announcements: Hurricane Harbor at SF Great America to add Tornado slide

Posted at 9:00 PM EST (0200 GMT)

Jan. 16th, 2006 -- The popular Tornado waterslides are coming to Gurnee, IL. This weekend Six Flags Great America announced that one of the rides would be arriving at the park's Hurricane Harbor waterpark this year.

The Tornado slides, which stand 75 feet high, were added to several Six Flags parks last year. Four people board a clover-shaped raft and slide down a 132-foot-long tunnel before being dumped into a 60-foot-wide funnel. The raft sloshes back and forth across the funnel before falling through the opening at the bottom into a pool.

Hurricane Harbor opens on May 27 and is free with admission to Great America.

Except for the fact that Tornadoes don't bludgeon your ears.

It might be true that every water park may eventually get one but can you blame them? They look like fun, it's a cool looking ride and it draws attention. I don't mind seeing these popping up at parks over and over again. Water rides and flat rides are generally basic so I don't mind "clones". It's only coasters that I hate to see cloned.

I'm glad we're getting the tornado. At least now I know we're getting something even if it's just another water ride. I was wondering if we were going to get it for sure since it was talked about over and over in rumors but only now confirmed.
