News: Disneyland in Beijing: Fact or Fiction?

Posted at 6:16 PM EST (2316 GMT)

Jan. 17th, 2006 -- On Tuesday, a newspaper in China showed a road map released by the Beijing city govenrment that illustrated all future improvements for the city, one of which was a Disney park. Disney responded saying that the claim was innacurate, and there are no such plans to build a new park in Bejing.

Currently, Disney is planning with authorities to build a new theme park in Shanghai, but the company is still awaiting approval, and therefore the Shanghai park is still only a possibility. Last September, Disney opened a new park in Hong Kong, which is to serve as a tourist attraction for most of mainland China. Opening a park in Beijing would create competition.

Of course Disney is going to say it's false. I takes years to develope and build a park, and by then everyone will be too excited to remember that Disney denied the existence of the park once.

Well, if Disney did in fact plan with the Beijing government for 2010, then that's only 4 years, not too long from now.
