Feb. 7th, 2006 -- A big Chinese holiday and a highly flexible ticket policy set the stage for severe overcrowding at Hong Kong Disneyland earlier this month. During the lunar New Year celebrations between Feb. 1 and 3 the park reached it's maximum capacity of 30,000, forcing the park to deny admission to additional guests.
Ticket agencies say they will refund the money of guests who were turned away, with one company going so far as to offer guests a free stay at the park's hotel. Meanwhile a park official said it is likely that the ticket system will be changed. Currently Hong Kong Disneyland offers tickets that can be used anytime in a six-month period.
