News: Worker dies while painting Ninja

Posted at 5:39 AM EST (1039 GMT)

Feb. 14th, 2006 -- A maintenance worker died after falling into a pond while painting Ninja at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Six Flags Spokesman Jim Taylor said the 25-year-old man fell when a rail on his boat came loose. He was on a pontoon boat that allowed workers to paint the underside of the ride. He worked for an outside contractor.

The worker was submerged about 30 minutes before a crew could reach him, said a fire department spokesman. He was nonresponsive when he was removed from the water, said Taylor.

Another worker feel in the water, but he was hospitalized with minor injuries.

It is always sad to hear these kinds of story. Hopefully the family can move on from this sudden freak accident.

I blame the ride ops and the rider should have never been fooling around like that...OH wait a minute. I am just warming up for this year's events.

I am glad to see Ninja is getting a paint job. It was in need.

I still am not quite clear on this story. Was the water temperature the reason he could get out, or was he knocked out from the fall?
