Kasmir Ulaky, owner and co-founder of Canobie Lake Park, passed away on Feb. 14 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass., at the age of 83. Ulaky was the last surviving member of partnership that purchased the park in 1958. Along with Claude Captell and Anthony Berni Sr., he modernized the Salem amusement park and turned it into a New England amusement landmark. Before stepping into the amusement industry, Ulaky served in the Air Force as a B-24 bomber pilot during World War II. After being missing in action after being shot down, Ulaky returned home and was awarded an Air Medal and a Purple Heart. He's survived by his wife, daughter, son and two grandchildren.
