No...
but I am glad now that they have seen how important Opryland was. Just think what the park would be like now if it had been open these past 9 years.

I would love to see them rebuild Opryland; it was a great little park and the main reason my family used to travel to Nashville. Herschend Family Entertainment is mentioned in the article in the Tennessean, and they would be a good group to do another Opryland. If not them, I would love to see the "Thrillopolis" project revived, that looked like it would be a great park.

It took nearly 10 YEARS to figure this out!?!?!
I really hope it happens. Central TN and Nashville as a tourist destination needs this. And my coaster count does too. lol

They actually talked about adding shopping centers as well? Do they not get it? Shopping center is what got them in this mess to begin with. If you have ever been to nashville you know they have TONS TONS TON Sand TONS of shopping centers, they have like 12 malls or somthing outragous like that!!! compare that to amusement parks they have!
I say they give nashville shores the money to expand into an acutual resort and theme park! The government is as stupid as gaylord is when it comes to parks. Let somone build nashville a good park, somone that knows what they are doin!

My sentiments exactly trainguy83. Did they really think a shopping center was going to draw tourists the way Opryland did? By the way, I went there about 1994 and thought Opryland was tons better than Dollywood. It reminds me of when they closed historic Willow Grove park. People complained it was a hangout for kids, increased traffic, gave more opportunity for crime, had nothing but minimum wage jobs. What people wanted was---A MALL! That's a sure-fire way to solve all those problems. Now they get all misty eyed when talking about Willow Grove Park and how sad it is that the children of today will only know the name through a shopping center. Give me a break.

How many times have there been talks of a theme park in Nashville over the past few years? None of them have come to fruition-outside of a very small park which is already closed. I don't see this happening.

Opryland holds so many memories, it went there nearly 3 times a year...and then it closed. I remember climbing over the fence when the first few years the mall was open and walkin through their old rapids ride path...which looked like a sewer ditch then. but some of the themeing was still up
man...

I'm happy that everyone in Nashville seems to realize that closing Opryland was a major mistake. I hope Gaylord Entertainment never sheds the whole fiasco from its image.
I think that the Herschends and Dolly should step in to build Dollywood II in Nashville, like they were talking about last Spring.

Well, it would be nice if they rebuilt Opryland, but if you read the article, it does not sound likely. Like with this part:
"But it's unlikely that anyone will put up the cash to build one, said Dennis Speigel, president of International Theme Park Services, a Cincinnati-based consulting firm.
"Unfortunately, Nashville had a world-class theme park and decided to doze it," he said.
Speigel estimates that Opryland cost about $30 million to build in the early-1970s, but "to rebuild Opryland would probably cost in the neighborhood of $300 million to $400 million."
"It's one of those situations where, once you get out of the game, you may not be able to afford the ante to come back in," Speigel said."

I got to poking around on the internet and some of the rides from opryland are sitting in a field up north http://www.rcdb.com/pd34.htm and are part of some six flags property or something and if you want to get all misty and ride a clone of hangman the slc they had I believe its wild adventures in GA that has a clone of it and then six flags marine world has the one from opryland that was renamed kong. I sang at opryland with my youth choir in the summer of 1996 and I loved the park so I say tear down oprymills and bring the park back.:-D

The sad thing is every time I go to Opry Mills, I think about how it used to be an amusement park. However, I disagree with tearing it down just to rebuild a park cuz it is popular. They could build it elsewhere, but the problem is finding enough acreage in the area and of course have it be able to accomodate traffic. The crazy thing too is they've been busy upgrading
As far as the rides that was moved to Old Indiana (which is no longer a Six Flags property), some were relocated, while others were scrapped. Only Screamin' Delta Demon exists, apparently.
Lastly, with Gaylord... they're excellent with doing shows and all, but beyond that, forget it. They even sold their stake in Opry Mills to the Mills Corporation (which operates several other malls) to focus on the entertainment.
But, people around here keep on building shopping centers, and it's starting to take away from other areas (like Hickory Hollow in Antioch). But, that seems to be the mentality.
