News: Shapiro planning big investments for Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Posted at 4:42 PM EST (2142 GMT)

Mar. 20th, 2006 -- Six Flags Fiesta Texas has some big plans in the works. Six Flags CEO Mark Shapiro recently visited the amusement park and intends to invest heavily in it, according to park manager Martin Bozer.

The park has been somewhat ignored by Six Flags over recent years, with the newest ride added in 2002 and the most recent roller coaster opened in 2000. According to Bozer, however, that is about to change. Of the $140 million set aside for park improvements this year, some of it is going to Fiesta Texas for the construction of three new water rides. Bozer also said that park officials are "even more excited" about plans for 2007.

In addition to new rides, the park also expects to get new visitors since the closing of Six Flags AstroWorld last year.

That's great to hear! Fiesta Texas from what I constantly hear is a beautiful park and one of Six Flags' secret jewels. It's good to know more capital will be infused into this park.

I hear the park is great, and I'm glad to hear he plans all this expansion and new stuff, but I hope he does the same at GAdv although it is already a super awesome cool freakin' great park. lol. But from the way the park has been added to, it seems like GAdv is about to get the boot, as in not get much new stuff, because it got something new 2 years in a row... Did it get anything in 2004? I wasn't a coaster fanatic back then.

Woo Hoo. I am excited about the 2007 changes. Hopefully its a new coaster. SFFT is a beautiful park set in the Quarry Limestone. It's just a wonderful park with great shows and rides.

Siestakey, SF Gadv is the most visited park in Six Flags chain. Trust me it is no where near about to get the boot. They usually add a new coaster there every two years. Only this year with El Toro did they do back to back with new high speed roller coasters. Im thinking this may possibly be a new trend of theirs too to keep people coming back to their pride and joy park. Explains why SFMM is getting Tatsu and probably something new next year too. You take good care of your investments. As far as SF Fiesta Texas goes. I think it is a very beautiful park that has been neglected from new rides in recent years. No park out there deserves more attention than this one.

Nice to hear that they won't sell off this park. It always seemed like with the tourism in San Antonio it would be a no brainer for investing in.

Who said they were going to sell off the park? Or you just had a thought they would. San Antonio is big on tourism. We get a lot of people for the river walk and a lot come from mexico....
