News: Lake Winnie announces Oh-Zone

Posted at 1:22 PM EST (1822 GMT)

Mar. 28th, 2006 -- All winter long, Lake Winnepesaukah has been gearing up for the new season.

The 14-story drop tower is the only one of its kind in the state of Tennessee and will be the tallest attraction at the park when it opens for the season April 1.

The park's newest thrill ride will be named Oh-Zone and will act as an illuminated billboard for the park as well. Construction on the structure was completed March 15th.

The park moved the Fly-O-Plane to another section of the park to make way for this new star attraction. The new ride will more the double the height of the Cannon Ball roller coaster. The new ride will be the tallest in the park at 140 feet tall and dropping at 50 mph giving riders 4.6 G's on their way down the tower.

For more information about Oh-Zone, visit Lake Winnie for details.

"Illuminated billboard" Does this mean the tower is going to light up? If so COOL, if not, still cool! 140ft is pretty tall, especially when there are a lot of smaller models on attractions like these, and since LW is a smaller park and all.

^ Actually it's in both. Carowinds isn't the only park to straddle two state lines.

It also says that Lake Winnie is the South's favorte park. Uh...no.

Although this does seem like a fun ride, I would prefer the park to have an 85 foot drop tower, not a 140. Something that size would probably take away the feel of this park.

Tanks4me...Castles n' Coasters put an identical tower in the park and it really isn't too much. Granted, Castles n' Coasters doesn't have the same traditional feel, but this ride won't be too intrusive. If the put in something like Power Tower, then it would feel out of place and take away from the atmosphere.

^ Yup. Only the larger parks can pull off giant 30-story drop rides. These smaller parks do well with 85-foot to 150-foot tall towers, as at that height, they already are very massive/tall in relation to the park.
