News: Lagoon celebrates 120th year; will build coaster in 2007

Posted at 6:22 PM EDT (2222 GMT)

Apr. 7th, 2006 -- Lagoon amusement park will celebrate its 120th season when it opens for 2006 on Saturday. Two children-oriented Zierer drop towers will open as new attractions for this season.

Other facilities have been upgraded at the park, including two new picnic pavilions and new restrooms to replace the out-of-date old ones. Lagoon spokesman Dick Andrew also confirmed that the park will build a large roller coaster in 2007.

Lagoon is open weekends in April and May. It opens for daily operation on June 2.

This seems to be a really neat park. It's good to hear they are upgrading too. I can't wait to see what kind of coaster they are getting.

Probably something the size of Kentucky Rumbler. I can see a good GCi woodie there for some reason. I hope they get a woodie.

I live in bountiful utah which is the next city over from lagoon and i get a lagoon pass every year but all its going to be a steel roller coaster and thats a fact but it will be between 150ft to 200ft tall be that hight i have not yet confirmed but i think what they need to do it make a record breaking coaster earther being the highest, the fastest, or the first design of its kind cauise that way they will attract alot more people to the park cause roller coaster fans always want to ride the best ride or record breaking coaster and making a record breaking coaster will let more people know about lagoon but looking at the size of the park my guess is that the roller coaster will go from one end of the park to the other end but all i can say is IT BETTER NOT SUCK AS BAD AS THE BAT which they put in last year and its a suspended roller coaster which the track lenght is bearly 1000ft long and it more like a kiddy roller coaster and there are no loops or inversions and its slow as hell and me and alot of other people think it was a waste of money and you can go to http://www.lagoonpark.com to see it and the new rides this year are the lady bug bop and the dino drop and they are mini free fall rides that are 50ft tall and of course i was the very first person to get on the ride and also the last 3 years i was the first person to ride the rides and will be the first to ride the new roller coaster for 2007 and i will let everyone know how it was and give a discription of the ride

The new roller coaster for 2007 will be 110 feet tall. Recent rumors report that Management has seen computerized video of this roller coaster and what it will look like and have. The most that has been said is that it will have two barrel rolls on the coaster.

For a park like Lagoon, this will be a great addition to the park.
