News: Libertyland selling carousel

Apr. 23rd, 2006 -- Libertyland is hoping to sell its historic carousel, and historians say it could go for $1 million.

The carousel was built in 1909 by the Dentzel Carousel Company, and Libertyland was its home since the 1920s.

It carries only horses, but they are all hand-carved. Some historians are suggesting Memphis-area parks or attractions to buy the carousel. They said the Memphis Zoo or Mud Island in Memphis as two possible locations the carousel could be sold.

Libertyland closed forever on Oct. 29, 2005. It operated for nearly 30 years.
