News: Children taken to closed park

Posted at 3:27 PM EDT (1927 GMT)

Apr. 27th, 2006 -- Four bus loads of students from O'Brien Middle School in Reno, Nev., were disappointed after spending a day traveling four hours to Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo, Calif., only to find the park closed. The school, however, was given printed tickets with Monday's date on them.

The tour company which arranged the trip neglected to check the schedule which caused the inconvenience of the trip which was supposed to reward top students. School officials said the $50 fee will be refunded, and the next trip will be paid by the tour company.

"It is just a bummer for the kids," said one student's parent. "Now, they will have to wait another month to go and a lot of the kids might not be able to go then."

Six Flags Marine World began daily operation on April 1, but it was closed from April 24 to April 27.

Wow. That sucks. How could they not check to see if it would be open or not?

Poor kids? Sure it's a bad event, but it's not like these kids are 1st graders.

Plus, they get to miss school one day and then they get to actually go another. I wouldn't care if I was one of them.

Reminds me of National Lampoon's Vacation. I cant believe no one, not a single person, realized the park wasnt open that day when planning that trip.

Park schedule doesn't matter. They closed the park 3 hours early on Easter because attendance was too low. Even surprised the ride ops that the park suddenly closed.

"Park schedule doesn't matter. " Uh, yeah it does. It tells you when the park is open.

I think its ridiculous that they planned this big trip but forgot to check if the park was open. I feel no sympathy for this school.

Too think this was classes of honor students, apparently the trip planners arent honor students either.
