Posted at 9:20 PM EDT (0120 GMT) Apr. 27th, 2006 -- In an effort to keep up with competitors SeaWorld and Walt Disney World, Universal Florida has announced that it will be increasing its minimum wage to $7.25 starting May 7.
Recently SeaWorld raised its minimum to $7 an hour and Disney raised its to $6.90. Not only is Universal offering a pay raise, it is also offering various benefits ranging from dental, medical and life insurances to a 401(k) retirement savings plan effective immediately for new hires. Normally employees had to work three months to earn these benefits. Universal is also offering a 25-cent increase on top of the minimum to anyone with at least two years experience in tourism or hospitality.
