News: Cedar Point trims prices for admission and concession items

Posted at 3:21 PM EDT (1921 GMT)

May. 1st, 2006 -- When Cedar Point opens on Saturday, guests will notice a decrease in many prices. Hoping to prevent a repeat of last year, when the park experienced a 2 percent attendance loss, the park has lowered prices across the board to attract visitors.

An adult ticket will now cost $40, a $5 decrease. The amusement park also dropped the prices of the five most popular menu items, the greatest change being for cotton candy, the cost of which plummeted from $3 to 25 cents. The changes mark a rare event in the amusement park industry, when a park openly admits it is lowering prices to help bring people back.

Analysts say Cedar Point's move could inspire other parks to do the same.

Yay 25 cents for Cotton Candy! I'm sure that'll sell VERY well!

One of them had better be cheese on a stick. I practically lived off that stuff!

I think Cedar Point is doing something good, and they're learning from mistakes. Expensive food really scares people away. High prices aren't luring people to your park.

This is good for the park. At a time where SF park prices are going up up up Cedar Points is going down.

Last season, I was harping on the park saying they should lower prices to attract people. It's better to have 8,000 people spend less money than it is to have 6,000 trying not to go broke. HURRAY for CP!!!!! I really think people will spend more money with the prices lowered, because they are getting more bang for their buck.

Six flags could learn a lesson from this.

$15 parking is not going to attrack families.

Now the talk will be about what's the better Cedar Fair Park, instead of what's the best amusement park.

Cedar Fair has no one to compete with now that the prices are well below the prices of other parks.

I think that this is a better choice than rather raising the price. They probally will make more money off of the 25 cent cotton candy than the 4 dollar cotton candy.

I hope more parks do this because I know I would definetly spend more money if prices were lower. ATENTION: Six Flags you need to take a hint your parking is outrages and the food for that price I rather pack my own lunch and eat in the car.
