News: Expansion planned on site of former amusement park

Posted at 3:38 PM EDT (1938 GMT)

May. 12th, 2006 -- Recreational vehicle giant Couch's Campers is currently working on a four-phase, $2 million expansion on the site of the former Americana Amusement Park, LeSourdsville Lake.

The expansion will include a new service center as well as a 30,000-square-foot indoor showroom. Resembling a strip mall, the showroom was said to be one of the largest of its kind in the state of Ohio. A 30-foot atrium will also be built to connect the showroom with the store and offices.

The company's founder, Jerry Couch, said he also plans to develop 50 to 100 camp sites that will make up a camping grounds which will be used by customers as well as for short-term camping outings.

LeSourdsville Lake operated for about three months in 2002. It hasn't re-opened since.

No! The last thing America needs is more tourons cruising around in their land yachts. What this country does need to do is preserve its history. I am more than a little upset about this news. Lesourdsville was a classic park that my family has had a lot of fond memories of. And Screechin' Eagle was an awesome coaster. Dang.

And another one bites the dust.

This is getting to be a depressing pattern.

Will any of our small parks survive?

That's too bad...
Although I never got to ride it, one of my favorite coaster pictures is of the Screechin' Eagle...

And no, I don't think any small parks will survive.

I went there once AGES ago and sadly back then was too young/scared to ride and of the coasters. Its terribly sad to see all these small parks going away.
