May. 15th, 2006 -- With summer just around the corner, Paramount’s Carowinds prepares to unveil their newly remodeled water park - Boomerang Bay.
As a Platinum Season Pass Holder I received a sneak peak at the newly rebranded water park on May 14th. The park's remodeling effort to transform Water Works into Boomerang Bay was done quickly. As a result of this transformation, bright colors abound the decor in this Australian-themed water park. The old buildings look new with fresh coats of paint and new signage.
One of the new additions, Kookaburra Bay is already in use near the former site of the looping starship - Frenzoid. Kookaburra Bay features a large lagoon with various water umbrellas (water is sprayed out of the top and flows over the edges). In the Kookaburra Bay area the park has added many new lounge chairs. Patrons should be pleased with this addition alone, as lounge chairs tended to be very scarce in past seasons.
The park has also provided new bathrooms in the Kookaburra Bay area. However, as stated earlier this year, the park did not create a third entrance to the water park in the area which formerly housed Frenzoid. Platypus Plunge, the second new addition to the park, is close to completion. This attraction is located near Great Barrier Reef (wave pool), and looks to be a few more weeks away from opening.
All of the existing rides were rethemed to the Australian theme. For some, this just required a signage change; but for others repainting was necessary, as in the case of the raft ride formerly known as The Abyss.
With a newly expanded water park offering two new rides as well as general improvements throughout, Paramount’s Carowinds is sure to please families and patrons for years to come. Boomerang Bay opens to the general public May 20.
