News: Superman - Tower of Power drops into Six Flags St. Louis

Posted at 4:27 PM EDT (2027 GMT)

May. 19th, 2006 -- A 62 mile-per-hour freefall plunge from atop a 23-story tower describes Six Flags St. Louis' newest thrillride addition, which officially opened today to park guests.

In conjunction with the Superman theme, the mayor of Metropolis (the one in Illinois) attended the ribbon cutting ceremony, as did Miss Metropolis and the Metropolis High School marching band. In addition, the entire town of Metropolis was invited for free admission to the park for the day, said Dave Roemer, General Manager of the park.

The park's public relations manager, Elizabeth Gotway, said the combination of the Superman tower ride and the Bugs Bunny National Park attractions, which opened last month, is the singlest largest addition to the park in its 35 years of operation. However, the cost was undisclosed per Six Flags' policy of not openly distributing financial information for competitive reasons.

In order to erect the towering mast of the attraction, part of a building had to be demolished, where the tower currently stands, and sections of the Screamin' Eagle roller coaster were temporarily removed so trucks could haul the tower's massive parts to the construction site.

This ones about the height of Drop Zone at PCW anyway. Seems like they're really promoting this thing...(it's a hand-me-down, isn't it?)

/ Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I meant to say it was converted, sorry for the confusion Chris. It was early in the morning, and my mind isn't aware of most things.

Maybe the left the blue sections already for Acrophobia alone when they repainted it to be Superman.

Great logo
