News: Valleyfair keeps Wild Thing closed and conducts inspection

Posted at 2:14 PM EDT (1814 GMT)

May. 23rd, 2006 -- On Sunday 18 people were injured on Wild Thing at Valleyfair! when a car at the rear of a train broke off and tilted as the train was breaking. The roller coaster remains closed today and although an investigation is taking place this afternoon, some inspectors are baffled as to how it happened.

A day before the accident, Wild Thing's safety system shut down the ride twice, but there were no shutdowns on Sunday and an inspection less then two hours before the accident found no problems. An inspector with the National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials said it was impossible to know yet whether the accident was connected with Saturday's shutdowns. The inspector also said it was "very rare" for roller coaster trains to disconnect.

There is no word on when Wild Thing will reopen.

See the St. Paul Pioneer Press for more.

No, I have an idea for what happend but im not going to say anything about it. All this is doing is herting Valleyfairs reputaion and i dont think thats what ayone wants for them right now. After all they are 30 years old this year.

I am still having a hard time understanding how the train seperated. Something had to be loose. I hope it wasn't mischief. I doubt it was, but anything is possible at this time.

Sorry but this makes me think the ride was tampered with to cause this accident. It's ROLLERCOASTER the movie all over again.

You are privileged enough to hear what might have gone wrong but you cant spell 'hurting' properly? Here's a spelling bee, and the first work is 'reputaion'... Use it in a sentence you say? Sorry, no can do, but I can use REPUTATION in a sentence. Ayone? I think I met her at a club last week... She's related to noyone, isn't she? Just wondering...

Epso. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe diversity is an old wooden ship from the civil war era.

Anyway, lol, the safety system would have nothing to do with this.

^ who knows a employee thats mad at the company or I can think of anyone of a number of possibility's. I still say that all the accidents at Disneyland that happened so close together were suspicious.

Everyone will forget about this soon. Most people have forgot about the Big Thunder Mountian incident.

VF announced this morning that a faulty joining bracket was the culpret that detached the last train. Some people were telling me it was because of the lack of power in the MCBR. THANK GOD!!! Our airtime is saved!!!

XbadX1233, the MCBR did not lose power. The MCBR is used for the photos in the tunnel. The train needs to go the right speed so the camera can take the photos. They are not there to kill airtime.
