News: Severe damage at Bell's Amusement Park

Posted at 12:02 AM EDT (0402 GMT)

Jun. 7th, 2006 -- A severe storm swept through Tulsa, OK earlier this morning, causing heavy damage at Bells Amusement Park. The park's Ferris Wheel was bent in half, a tree fell onto the track of the Zingo roller coaster, in addition to damage to other rides and various buildings. The storm also caused problems for the rest of the Tulsa County Fairgrounds.

The amusement park intends to call a press conference in a few days to discuss the park's reopening plans. Bells' owner said it was the worst storm the area has seen in 20 years.

See KOTV 6 for more.

^ If you click on the link in the story there are pictures.

I have never heard of a ferris wheel being bent in half!?!

I live in Hurricane alley and have never heard of winds doing that.

Maybe they can somehow use this for the name of their new coaster they just got approved (if they still proceed with it).

What a crazy thing to happen.

Ouch... that's gotta hurt. If they incorporate this event into the coaster's name, Thunderstorm or Hurricane seems fitting.

Wow. I really hope they can get it cleaned up and reopen. The winds must have been really strong.

Ahhh, the power of microbursts! Now you all are aware of how destructive they really are. We're talking about winds as strong as a major hurricane (category 3-5), but only more localized.

Anyway, I do wish the park the best of luck in a speedy recovery back to normal.
