News: Riders In The Sky ride into Tweetsie Railroad July 15-16

Jun. 8th, 2006 -- Blowing Rock, N.C. – America’s Favorite Cowboys, Riders In The Sky, will saddle up at Tweetsie Railroad July 15 and 16 with shows of Western harmony and comedy.  The multi Grammy award-winning Western music group, whose music has its roots in the rich American music traditions of such legendary cowboys singers as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and the Sons of the Pioneers, are legends in their own right.  Their fun-filled performances have enchanted audiences of all ages and their fans eagerly look forward to their annual appearances at Tweetsie.

The quartet will perform two shows daily at noon and 3:00 p.m. at Tweetsie Railroad.  Riders In The Sky will perform songs like “Woody’s Roundup,” their Grammy-winning song from the movie Toy Story 2 soundtrack, as well as traditional Western favorites.

Since 1977, Riders In The Sky has delivered pure and priceless entertainment to millions of fans around the world. Band members Ranger Doug, “Idol of American Youth”, Woody Paul, “King of the Cowboy Fiddlers”, Too Slim, and Joey, “The CowPolka King” have combined refreshing acoustical music and a wide musical repertoire with outrageous comedy, delivering entertainment guaranteed to delight listeners of all ages and musical preferences. The moment the group steps to the microphone the magic begins, allowing listeners to lose themselves in the romantic, comical and whimsical world of the singing cowboy.

•  Riders In The Sky has received much national acclaim, including a Grammy in 2001 for Best Musical Album for Children with Woody’s Roundup featuring Riders In The Sky, and again in 2003 for their album, Walt Disney Record's Monsters Inc. - Scream Factory Favorites
• Riders In The Sky performing group member Joey Miskulin produced the music for the Pixar film “Boundin,” which received recognition with a 2004 Oscar nomination in the Short Film (Animated) Category.
• In 1982, Riders In The Sky became the first exclusively Western music artist to join the Grand Ole Opry
• Riders In The Sky is credited with more than 5,000 shows, 300 national TV appearances, 203 public radio shows, nearly 700 Grand Ole Opry appearances, over 3 million miles on the road, three television series and 31 albums.

After trying your hand as a singing cowboy with Riders In The Sky, experience all the other activities offered at Tweetsie Railroad including the Wild West train adventure, amusement rides, Deer Park zoo, and live entertainment for all ages including the famed Tweetsie Palace Saloon Show.

Tweetsie Railroad is located in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains on US Highway 321 between Blowing Rock and Boone. The park is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Seating for the Riders In The Sky concert is on a first-come first-seated basis, and is included in Tweetsie Railroad’s regular admission prices of $27 for adults and $19 for children age 3 through 12. Children age 2 and under are free.

Its funny how I've never heard of "Riders in the Sky" but have heard heard of some of their music.

Are they based on the Jonny Cash song "riders in the sky"?

I think this is cool!
Tweetsie is doing well, now if they just add a coaster I will go!

If I am not mistaken (and too tired to look it up at the moment)... Riders in the Sky also had a couple of country dance hits .... scratch that thought.

Those three I was thinking of were Ghost Riders by Australia's Tornado and Jose Cuervo by Kimber Clayton.

I do know I have seen stuff from them though before.

Oh well, strike up a big X from the Family Fued on me this time.

I agree! I am surprised this park has lasted the length it has so far with almost no major additions that I can think of. It would be neat to see this park turn into an amusement park. It definitely would be a unique one!

Just goes to show a park can be sucessful without coasters. Of course i would like to see them put in a monster one day. Their attendance would most likely double if they did.
