News: El Toro charges into Six Flags Great Adventure

Posted at 2:09 AM EDT (0609 GMT)

Jun. 12th, 2006 -- Six Flags Great Adventure has unleashed America's second tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster.  Guests daring to challenge its 4400-feet of twisted track will find themselves careening around steeply banked curves and flying over the tops of numerous hills designed to accentuate the sensation of weightlessness - all highlighted by an opening drop sloped at 76-degrees, the steepest on any wood coaster in the world.

“El Toro breaks new ground for wooden roller coasters, and is the perfect addition to our world-class coaster collection. Thanks to its modern take on classic wood design and its incredibly smooth ride, it caters to coaster lovers of all ages, both thrill seekers and families,” said Ron Sevart, vice president and general manager of Six Flags Great Adventure.

El Toro anchors a brand new area of Six Flags Great Adventure, called Plaza del Carnaval, that transplants the vigor and vitality of coastal Mexico into the Jackson-based park. Plaza del Carnaval is also home to a new Mexican restaurant, La Cocina, new marketplace-style shopping at El Mercado and a new rocking, spinning family ride, dubbed Tango. Plaza del Carnaval opened to guests Memorial Day weekend.

Question: if this ride is "plug and play", why did most new coasters open the 1st week of May, and this one opened the 2nd week of June?
Are they harder to construct? Or is it marketing?

^ Neither, its called they never planned to open it the 1st week of may and that they started this coaster later than others. Actually, the plug and play aspect of it was and i think did help speed up construction time, definately not slow it down.

There are no words to describe this ride. You must ride it as soon as you can.

If you followed construction on this coaster, you would see it took a long time to add many footers, and do land clearing, as the coaster is very close to another wooden coaster. Once all of the footers were done, the coaster was completely within two weeks, minus the mechanical part like the cable lift.

^ Structure completed within two weeks? That's a little bit of an exaggeration isn't it?

This is directly from another site but the author makes a good point:

"Okay, am I the only one who did a double-take seeing SFGAdv's *flame* logo for a *wooden* coaster? ;-)"

Anyways, I really hope to ride this someday.

This is the best coaster in the park easily I believe. Its smoothness makes even NITRO look rough with its B&M valley rumbles. This new age of wooden coasters is remarkable.

And the cable lift is lightning fast. It is something that you really need to experience to believe.

Well, that is just awesome!

/ Oh, and I have ridden Millennium Force, so if it's anything like that (which I assume it is), then yes I could say it is mighty fast!

I think that this feels faster than MF. It might not be, but it feels like it is.
