Jun. 14th, 2006 -- Six Flags continues to place its focus on creating a more family-oriented environment.
Mark Shapiro, CEO of Six Flags, said that he is "trying to loose the image of a teenage loitering park to become a family-friendly park." He has begun by creating a cleaner environment, such as thorough the use of constant restroom attendants. The image of the parks is also going to be improved through the use of improved landscaping and more benches. The use of at least 15 characters in the park at one time has also been ordered. As he has said before, Shapiro will continue to focus less on thrill rides and more on family-oriented rides. Along with creating a new environment at the parks, Shapiro is focused on reducing the Six Flags debt load. One way that he intends to do this is through corporate sponsorships (currently from Papa John's and Home Depot). Shapiro also mentioned that he plans on selling the naming rights of certain rides as a way to raise money. It is also not out of the question that some parks be sold, however, no mention has been made about which parks this may include. The entire story can be found at USA Today.
