News: Libertyland rides auctioned off

Posted at 11:52 AM EDT (1552 GMT)

Jun. 23rd, 2006 -- Rides at the former Libertyland amusement park were auctioned off on Wednesday. The historic Zippin Pippin roller coaster sold for just $2,500.

Other rides of note were Kamikaze! (Fabbri Kamikaze), which garnered the most money at $190,000. Rebellion, a Fabbri Dropzone, sold for $155,000. Also, the park's other major coaster, Revolution (Arrow Loop & Corkscrew) sold for $55,000.

The purchaser of Zippin Pippin wants to keep just one of the cars from the ride and is working with the American Coaster Enthusiasts to possibly relocate the ride.

The auction raised as much as $1 million for the Mid-South Fair.

This is sad news. It's good that many of the rides. have been saved but that they went for so little. it's sad that there wasn't more interest in it. Its sardining that the park couldn't stay alive. the city had offers to buy the park and keep it running why they though this was a better alternative I don't know Hopefully the coaster is successfully moved I would hate to see another classic coaster lost.

So sad that Memphis didn't see any value in saving the park.

Hopefully ACE will get the coaster relocated. Elvis would be sad to see this day.

Just a quick update. Revolution was bought be Delgrosso's Amusement Park in Tipton, PA. It is said to going in for the 2007 season, but nothing has been confermed from park managment. Also when talking to a mec. at Delgrosso's, he said it will be going inside the train tracks.
