News: BORG Assimilator Update

Posted at 10:51 AM EST (1551 GMT)

Feb. 18th, 2004 -- New BORG Assimilator construction photos. Construction continues to progress and steel erection is coming close to completion. These photos show the completed vertical loop as well as the location of the Borg Sphere.

Borg SphereFirst Look at BORG Sphere: The steel framework is in place for the BORG sphere. Although it's hard to tell from the photo, the track of BORG Assimilator surrounds the sphere so riders will almost fully encircle it.

Vortex/swoopVortex and Swoop over water: This photo show just how close riders will come to the water (the lagoon will be filled) on BORG Assimilator - all while staring face-down! You also may notice how bright Vortex looks in this photo. Like Drop Zone Stunt Tower and many other rides and areas of the park, it is being repainted.

Queue lineQueue Line: The concrete pathway you see in this photo is the walkway leading to the station. Riders have the unique opportunity on BORG Assimilator of walking through the coaster to reach the loading platform. In this photo, you'll notice that you pass directly between the ride's vertical loop (left) and horseshoe turn (right).

This is a stellar example of what a can be done with a "used" ride...way to go Paramount! I'm actually quite proud of them right now.

Weird thing is...both of the original Vekoma Flying Dutchman coasters are now on the east coast. In fact, is there even ONE west of the Mississippi? I don't think there is!

That is one cool paint scheme.

You're right, Jerry. Not only are there no Vekoma Flying Dutchmans west of the Mississippi, but there are no flying coasters west of the Mississippi (except The Flying Coaster, but does that even count?).

Well...the colors finally grew on me. It looks really cool now. I'm so glad we got this coaster.

And it is strange that now all the flying dutchman's are on the East Coast. lol

Aren't people pissed that their relatively new coaster got ripped out at Kings Island and brought to Carowinds?

It didn't come form Kings Island, it came from Great America. I am so excited Carowinds is getting this coaster! Hopefully people will give Carowinds the credit it deserves after they construct this roller coaster.

When I heard the name the ride sounded dorky. It has really shaped up though, so that is good.
