News: Man drowns in lake at Rye Playland

Posted at 11:31 PM EDT (0331 GMT)

Jul. 20th, 2006 -- A man died at Rye Playland this week after swimming in a man-made lake that is off limits to swimmers. The lake, which is used for Paddle Boats and kayaks, reaches depths of 40 feet deep.

Signs are usually posted around the lake forbidding swimming. However, Rye Playland and other local city parks traditionally have a problem with guests taking down or removing those signs. This the third death in as many years for the amusement park. All three deaths were caused by guest negligence.
