Posted at 12:37 AM EDT (0437 GMT) Jul. 21st, 2006 -- A Los Angeles County supervisor wants to negotiate the status of Six Flags Magic Mountain's proposed sale.
Supervisors are interested in annexing SFMM. Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich sent a letter to Six Flags CEO Mark Shapiro requesting a meeting.
An Antonovich aide said, "The supervisor is committed to ensuring Six Flags Magic Mountain remains a theme park."
Six Flags recently announced it plans to sell six parks, including SFMM and its water park Hurricane Harbor, to help relieve a debt.

Well, I am not at all surprised at how much of an uproar SFMM's possible sale has gotten recently, I am glad, though.

I find it hard to believe that Six Flags would dump one of it's biggest parks.
I hope it doesn't happen, but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

Absolutely. they must be out of their minds. Out of all the other Six Flags parks [ who are way below the line of magic mountain since magic mountain is like the best one] why do they choose Magic Mountain? Why not take out one in Texas? They already have two. and The have another one close by

OK Six Flags Great Adventure and Magic Mountain are their two big flagships. They bring in more business than any other park they have. I don't understand WHAT would possess them to even think about selling it. If they do that it would be the beginning of Six Flags demise. Im not sure what the folks at corporate headquarters is looking at, but it simply does not make sense to me at all.

They want to detract from all those rowdy teens, and keep more of a family atmosphere, so they are thinking of dumping SFMM, and from what I've heard, (I never went to SFMM, or California for that matter) it isn't in the greatest condition. Also, the land it sits on is extremely valuable, and if they sell it, it could go for well over half a billion dollars, which takes a mighty chunk out of their 2.1 billion dollar debt.

Personally - and I love SFMM - the idea of the park closing is not a surprise. Having been spat on at the park - some misbegotten child of the Lord was spitting out of the monorail - and watched as "all those rowdy teens", or, as we call them politely, idiots have managed to ruin the park for many people. We don't tend to police ourselves - so we allow the Six Flags flagship park to become a zoo. Maybe they can use the proceeds from the sale of the park to hire additional security for the other parks. Do I like this? NO - make no mistake about that. It apparently is just a sign of the times.
