News: Girl injured on Tornado at Adventureland

Posted at 11:18 AM EDT (1518 GMT)

Jul. 26th, 2006 -- An 11-year old girl was hospitalized on Monday after riding the Tornado wooden roller coaster at Adventureland in Iowa. A loose board struck the girl during the ride.

The board was placed near Tornado, but was not a piece of the ride's structure itself. The State of Iowa sent inspectors to the ride but found nothing wrong with it.

The girl is listed in fair condition. The State of Iowa will issue a news release today regarding the incident.

Not part of the roller coaster? Did a nearby tree explode or something?

It sounds like a worker just layed a spare board up against the ride and the vibration of the structure eventually made it fall over into the path of the train.

I can actually agree if this family sues the park, most of the time it is rider negligence but if she was hit by a board that wasn't to be there then they are negligent...
