WTF? All these deaths. The rides are safe, but people need to make sure they are healty enough to ride. IE heart problems, back problems all of that stuff.

As sad as this is, it almost makes you wish they had heart checks for people before they went on rides.

My theory is that people that aren't in shape and aren't used to the heat and walking around alot are prone to this happening. But that's just my theory.

This has been a bad couple of weeks though for coasters.

Yah, I don't know why I said they need to check to see if the ride is safe first. lol. I just edited my post so know you will know what I really meant.

Thats not a bad idea Wes. Have a heart doctor at the front of the park... just incase you are worried.

Yikes, definitely not good for SFOG. I haven't watched the news today so I don't know what they are saying here about it.

I wonder if people's increasing obesity has anything to do with some of these deaths. Obesity can lead to heart problems, and people with heart problems are riding roller coasters and having outcomes like this.

I guess we have to wait for more details, though. This man, like others, probably had a pre-existing condition. It's too bad that some people aren't aware of it.

I have to question how long some of y'all have "been around" as in been a follower of amusement park news and happenings. I'd wager that this year is no worse than any other... yeah, it sucks, but the stats are still extremely low.

I'd also bet it was a heart condition. Heart attacks just don't happen randomly.

Here's a comprehensive listing back to 1972.

It gives a good idea of how much really has or hasn't happened in the past.

You guys don't know me, but I've lurked around here for many years, though rarely posting. Anyway, for those of you blaming people with health problems for getting on rides, you have no idea what you are talking about. I was just recently diagnosed with a rare disease, which has the potential to cause heart problems, among many other symptoms. I have probably had this condition for many years, and never knew it. I have recently been advised to stay away from any high stress situations, and I have interpretted this to include trips to my local parks. My point is this, many people have health problems that they simply don't know about, especially conditions that deal with the heart, as they are quite often never diagnosed, or misdiagnosed. You can't blame the death on the ride, or the person. He could have just as easily died while at home, sitting on the toilet.

FINALLY, someone has the same thinking I do.

Totally serious here...since when do ONLY obese people have heart attacks?

What do you want people to do before they embark on a trip...get a CAT scan, MRI, EKG and whatever else beforehand? Come on...that's overdoing it, don't you think?

Tragic for the mom and kids who were both present, and were on the next train out of the station. It really is sad.

Neither the park, nor the ride, nor the person's fault. It wasn't a case like a restraint/size issue, as before. When it comes to these health-related ones, it's nearly unavoidable, aside not riding at all.

I'm SO GLAD to know that it wasn't the park's fault. And it really is a good sign that the ride was inspected and reopened in minutes. Yay for SFoG's rides dept. Not so good for SFoG's PR dept, or marketing or whatever.

Wow, there are lots of ride incidents lately. This is bad, especially for a new ride. All the GPs are going to think it's unsafe or something.

^I'm GP and I still think coasters are safe. Stop assuming that "general public" people know less than enthusiasts.

^Tell it. Just becasue people aren't the biggest enthusiasts in the world doesn't mean that when they here about a death they think a park is unsafe. We don't some do but I would say most know you are more likely to die driving to an amusement park than riding it's rides.

I know my comment is late on the disscusion but I just had to say that when I found this news article.
