Thats sad to hear.
That reminds me of a question ive been meaning to ask, do most theme parks have heart difibulators? it seems like this would have helped in this situation.
if not they should.

Very tragic, and she was only ten, I didn't know that heart problems could develop that early.

I'm sure most, if not all parks have AED's, and people trained to use them. The question would be how many, and how close? I wouldn't think the kiddie section would be a top strategic placement for one, though it sure would have been in this case. I really feel for her family.

GOODNESS!
This must be a record year of deaths at parks that are contributed to preexsiting complications.
I say if you have a medical problem DONT do things that might exert that problem such as riding rides, hiking the great smoky maountains, whitwater rafting, running marathoons etc.
I do feel sorry for the girl and I wished that the DULT PARENT sect of our country would be more wise as to what they let their children with medical problems do. This is very sad on MANY levels.

Don't be so quick to judge her or her family. She was afterall in the kid section of the park and the rides are all very tame there. I wouldn't be surprised if she was riding a ride that most if not all doctors would've approved and said was perfectly fine. If she had been on Raging Bull or Giant Drop, it would be another story but she was not on a thrill ride.
And we're talking about a 10 year old girl who has died. Let's try a little compassion for her and her family, ok?

This is rediculous. People need to stop dying on rides.
It's a horrible thing, but not good.

Coasterlove you make a valid point, while at the same time you dont make a valid point. Bottom line is this, when is the last time a very healthy person has died on an amusement ride while following all the rules and the ride was operating properly? Quite frankly, I cant think of a time at all. There is always something that causes these deaths. Granted this girl was only 10 and in the kids section of the park, but there is something we call adrenaline. You combine adrenaline and a heart condition and it can be deadly, regardless of what type of ride the person is on. Parents need to be aware of this when they take a child to an amusement park and they are not in perfect health. Tragic in itself to lose someone so young, but it would also be wrong in itself if anyone even THINKS to blame the amusement park for this too. Just a series of bad mistakes caused a tragedy and its unfortunate.

This is truly sad news. Especially since she was in the Kiddie area.
While AED's have Expanded in presence at many parks, allot don't have them yet. Most parks that have them only have a few on hand. One problem with them though is you need to be trained and certified to use it. Most companies aren't willing or not in a position to get a number of people certified on them. So like with the RRC they have them but there wasn't one near by. It's sad that Something this simple that can save a life is so restricted that they can't be used the way they originally were planed for. that was a Defibrillator system that virtually works on its own and can be operated by a novice to help save a persons life.

Nitro don't be so quick to judge the family here. She was only 10, which means they may have had absolutly no idea of her heart condition, and she was in the kiddie section that includes the tamest rides in the park. I believe this is true with many of those pre-exhisting medical problems. And the fact is the only way to prevent these kinds of accidents is literally seeing a doctor before you go to a theme park everytime, and that is just rediculous.

Woodland read both articles. It clearly states that the girl had a history of heart complications. The parents already knew she could be at risk, regardless of how tame the ride may be. But bottom line, its tragic in itself

This is very sad for the parents. But it wasn't any fault of the parks or the ride.
