News: Bell's receives approval to build new coaster

Posted at 8:35 AM EDT (1235 GMT)

Aug. 17th, 2006 -- After an almost five year legal battle, Bell’s Amusement Park was finally given approval on Tuesday to build a new roller coaster, with the endorsement of nearby residents.

Bell’s will have to erect the ride within the lease lines already existing for the park and squeezed between the Zingo roller coaster and the Exposition Center.  The new coaster’s location should prove thrilling considering its tight footprint.

The new coaster will have to follow the same rules Zingo follows and will have to close at 9 p.m. except during the Tulsa State Fair.

Zingo’s profile will be completely different from the new coaster.  Zingo has no crossovers at all, whereas the new coaster will have about twelve.

Bell’s next step is to present a business plan to the fair board and receive an extension on their lease, which expires in October.

Perhaps Gravity Group is planing to Try a twister. It would be interesting to see haw they approach one. 12 is almost a great big jump back for GCII there last 3 have what 25+ crossovers. Good to hear it's approved, but the restrictions seem overbearing. those neighbors are completely nuts. especially since the park primarily borders a campground.

If I owned a campground I would want any expansion since it would bring me more business.

I dont agree with the residents but I cant get too mad at them, I'm not the one living next to the park or anything. It could be a smaller GCII.

I went back into the database and read one of the previous stories and it does mention a Gravity Group agreement with the park. So it sounds like they will be building it.

My poor little park is finally growing!!!! By the way though, Zingo does in fact have one crossover. The turn out of the station goes under the second drop. You can call it two if you count going down the drop too.I went by the park yesterday and the storm damage is still very evident. Lots of trees are destroyed, the kid dogems have no roof or facade, and the entire facade on top of Phantasmagoria is gone. I's just a big metal building now that says SCARIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE house across the front. LAME! They'll never restore that either. It's just one step closer to being history. At least they are getting a coaster though. Maybe with the increase in business they'll at least update the rest of the park a little with landscaping, and a more modern dark ride, and reuse the old wildcat lot. This means so much to the park! My head is spinning right now. I can't wait to watch the progress. As soon as they start building I'll be there taking pics every week.
