News: Holiday World hosts the Golden Ticket Awards

Posted at 3:53 PM EDT (1953 GMT)

Aug. 21st, 2006 -- Via Press Release.

A "Who's Who" of the amusement park industry will be on hand Sunday as Holiday World hosts the 9th Annual Golden Ticket Awards.

Nicknamed the "Academy Awards of the Amusement Park Industry," the Golden Ticket Awards are presented annually by Amusement Today magazine. The winners are determined by the results of a survey conducted among hundreds of well-traveled park enthusiasts.

"We are planning to add our own touch to the ceremony this year," says Holiday World & Splashin' Safari president Will Koch. "We hope lots of families who are in the park on Sunday will join us for all the fun, plus a few surprises."

Representatives from Cedar Point, Dollywood, Kings Island, Six Flags, Busch Gardens, Legoland and SeaWorld will be among the attendees hoping to bring home a Golden Ticket Award following Sunday's ceremony.

In addition, the president of the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions and the president of the World Waterpark Association will present awards in several categories. The list of presenters also includes representatives from ride manufacturers and other parks, the president of the American Coaster Enthusiasts, and 95-year-old Frieda Foertsch, who has worked at Holiday World for more than 50 years.

The Golden Ticket Awards will be presented Sunday, August 27, at 1:00 pm CDT in the Holiday Theater in Holiday World's Christmas section.

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari are open selected weekends through October 8. For more information, log on to www.holidayworld.com or call 1-877-Go-Family.

It would be really awesome if by "a few surprises" they actually meant they're going to announce the details of the new rides for 2007. What a great opportunity to do something like that.

Why wouldn't they deserve it? The PRESIDENT of the park was checking trains at Voyage when we went! He's also a really cool guy.

I want to go back there just for this, but its 14 hours away...

I dont think they deserve it for two reasons. The first reason is because I have found several parks where the emlpoyees go out of the way for the park guests and Holiday World ISNT one of them.

The other reason is because Holiday worlds water park employees are downright rude and the regular employees have a very ho hum attitude. There were some very friendly employees but not as many as rude and ho hum.

If I were voting for friendliest park I think Dollywood would come to mind first!

Heres my TR from HW if you want details!

^ I think you just had a bad experience. Overall I have never talked to anyone that had a bad experience at the park. My two visits the employees were very friendly. But every park has a couple bad apples.

I think that Holdiay World is WAY over rated on there friendliness. I think Dollywood is 100 times friendlier. I know one thing if Holiday World doesn't get the award for friendliness and there hosting it I will laugh my head off. I can just imagine Pat Koch's face when they announce another park instead. But seriously every time I have been to Holiday World no one other than Pat has stuck in my mind as being that friendly. Because every ride I rode no one ever said have a great day or anything like that. Where as at Dollywood you hear it on every ride.

So over all I hope Dollywood wins.

Adventureland (IA) really should place in Friendliest. Most of the employees are really nice senior citizens who retired years ago. They all love their job and they'll do what they can to help guests.

Too many GTA voters with their lips on Will Koch's butt for them not to win several awards... I don't think I wrote in their name for anything.

I still bet that they don't win the GTA for Voyage being the #1 woodie.. best of 06, probably, but its not a very good polling system which is why the awards are senseless unless you work in a winning park's marketing division.
