Aug. 24th, 2006 -- After being closed and all-but-abandoned by the park, Kings Dominion announces the late reopening of "Flight of Fear", the park's indoor outer-space themed linear-induction coaster built by Premier Rides in 1996.
Orginally closed for planned re-theming by Paramount Parks' Design and Development Team, Flight of Fear, has sat dormant in the back of the park since the first day of operation this year. The plans called for the ride, originally themed to The Outer Limits television show, to be overhauled as an MTV-themed attraction called "SoundWave". The closure of "Flight of Fear" at Kings Dominion did not affect an identical ride at Kings Island near Cinicinnati, OH. That park's version of the ride has been open all this season. Cedar Fair, LLC purchased the entire Paramount Parks chain earlier this year, so those MTV plans have since been abandoned. The news of the reopening of "Flight of Fear" was disseminated among the parks' season passholders through the park's bi-weekly newsletter.
